The theme was all about regeneration. What are the kinds of things advice professionals need to consider when it comes to the future of their business? And where are the areas of planning where we need to rethink and to ‘go again’? Agenda and more details about the speakers below.
THE PRACTICALITIES
We had a beautiful new venue this year in the form of Kings Place in London, in an area that’s seen its fair share of regeneration over the past decade or so (see what we did there).
Alasdair joined the profession in 2011 and is managing director of HA&W, a boutique financial planning practice in rural Leicestershire. He is an award-winning Certified Financial Planner™ and Chartered Fellow of the Personal Finance Society and Chartered Institute of Securities & Investments. Alasdair is a massive geek. Whether about coffee, cycling, technology, or myriad other topics. He’s particularly interested in the explosion of AI, taking the stance of "interested but sceptical".
Aron Szapiro is responsible for developing research reports on policy matters, coordinating official responses to regulatory proposals, and providing investor-focused comments on policy issues to clients and press. His research has been covered in places such as The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and on National Public Radio. Previously, he was a senior analyst at the U.S. Government Accountability Office, specialising in retirement security issues and pension plan policy.
Cheyenne has had over 30 years’ experience in the financial services industry specialising in corporate governance. She has previously worked as an adviser allowing her to have a commercial, practical approach to AFSL, ACL and GI compliance. Cheyenne won the ifa Excellence Awards for the Compliance Consultant of the Year in 2020, 2022 and 2023. She is the Founder and Managing Director of an independent compliance company – Australian Independent Compliance Solutions Pty Ltd.
Ewan Mitchell has over 12 years’ experience in creating and growing machine learning teams from scratch to maturity. After gaining a doctorate studying and modelling radio galaxies at Oxford University, Ewan also spent time teaching maths and physics before founding his first data science team. At Aviva he leads a team of data scientists and data engineers and is credited with being a machine learning innovator and award-winner.
Gareth is Wren Sterling’s Head of Research, responsible for maintaining the oversight and governance of the Wren Sterling investment and product propositions. Despite being in financial services for nearly 20 years, he’s an engineer by education and so loves a good spreadsheet to make sense of the world.
Greg is a chartered financial planner with 20 years’ experience advising clients, plus a few years in agency side marketing in the middle. He set up a financial planning team at law firm WBD, before founding 11.2 Financial Planning, a boutique financial planning and multi-family office, in 2019. Away from work, he is a youth football coach, keen trail runner, reader and photographer, mainly of his dog Scout.
Hitesh is a chartered financial planner and has worked at Satis since September 2020, advising across pensions, investments and trusts. He believes financial planning is about more than managing money, but providing clarity and confidence on how clients can achieve their goals and aspirations. Hitesh’s aim is to build lasting relationships built on trust to ensure clients’ plans remain focused and relevant. He works with entrepreneurs and senior company executives.
Jonny is a Chartered financial expert with 20 years in the industry, leading the LIFT Group’s compliance and paraplanning teams. He oversees regulatory and technical responsibilities, fostering innovation and professional growth. His passion lies in merging cashflow-based financial planning with a forward-thinking embrace of technology to deliver effective solutions to drive LIFT’s continued progress.
Kate Blatchford-Hick joined the FCA in 2015 from the Competition and Markets Authority. Kate has worked on and led market studies including asset management, investment platforms and defined contribution workplace pensions. In her role as head of Consumer Investments Market Analysis and Policy, Kate has responsibility for horizon scanning and harm identification across consumer investment markets. She also leads the FCA’s portfolio of consumer investment policy work including distribution and advice.
Marina joined Herbert & Webster in 2013 as an administrator. She has since gone on to gain a deeper understanding of the business, taking on more responsibilities before being promoted to operations director. After working for large corporations in leisure and banking , she says working with a small but motivated team was a real draw. Outside of work Marina likes to travel, including visiting family back home in France.
Paul Maynard is the Conservative MP for Blackpool North and Cleveleys, and has been an MP since May 2010. He was appointed Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Work and Pensions in November 2023. He has previously held government posts across Transport, Justice and the Treasury. The Minister has a passionate belief that what matters in politics is the connection you make with the people you represent.
Petronella is a double chartered pension transfer specialist with an incredible 35 years’ experience in financial services. Petronella says the fun starts when she can start solving what her client perceives as a problem. She was awarded Wealth Manager CEO of the Year at the City of London Wealth Manager Awards 2022. She is also heavily involved in charity work, specifically with Sierra Leone-based charity Street Child.
Rachael is a chartered financial planner and trust estate practitioner with over 25 years’ experience in trusts and tax planning. She specialises in trust and inheritance tax planning, estate planning, ISAs, lasting power of attorney, wills and probate.

Watch hereWe provided the research for a report, in conjunction with Parmenion, which reveals how far short of expectations many adviser platforms are falling. The research found that over the last 12 months, 88% of advisers needed to apologise to at least one of their clients on behalf of a platform, and that poor service delivery from platforms impacts 91% of advisers every day.

Service means a lot of things to a lot of different people. It’s so subjective it can be hard to put your finger on. This paper aims to challenge the status quo and inertia that’s built up in the sector for many years.
