the lang cat’s albums of 2017

So this is the seventh set of choices that I’ve fired out into the listless void, being as how we’re seven years old now. Sometimes I get pelters for it. Most of the time no-one notices. Does a list of great music make a squall of feedback in the forest when no-one is there to […]

the lang cat’s roundup of 2017

The year is ebbing away as I write this; Hogmanay is upon us and the fortified wine is running low. But before I go to sleep and prepare myself for tonight’s festivities, it’s time for our round-up of 2017. This is the sister blog to the lang cat’s albums of 2017, which I commend to […]

ALL ABOARD THE HEATMAPS. EMBARK COMES TO MARKET.

Righto, two things. (1) Iâ’ve given myself half an hour to race through this and (2) I’m very sorry about the pun. Terry’s idea. With both of these in mind, let’s move swiftly on. Embark finally announced its long-awaited charging structure the other day and you know the drill by now, we’ve got your back […]

Aviva and Wealthify make a bold fashion statement

It’s been an interesting week in robo-land 1. On Monday the latest set of accounts for Nutmeg were published. As has become the norm, alongside the frankly hilarious boast of ‘an 80% market share’ the rest of the numbers were brutal. £2.56m turnover, £11.9m operating expenses, and a loss of £9.3m (on top of the […]

YOLO, but for a long time hopefully

I’ve just finished reading a blog from Natalie Tuck at Pensions Age: YOLO vs retirement, which argues that ‘regardless of which generation you are born in, when you are young, you have other priorities than saving for retirement’. First up, I need to declare an interest: Alliance Trust Savings is one of my clients, so […]

SEVEN YEARS, NO ITCH

Hello, first post from me for a while. It’s self-indulgent, but it’s short. I only have 45 minutes to write this, and it’s important (to me, anyway) that I publish it before the fire dies and the clock ticks over to tomorrow morning. It’s seven years ago to the day that I left corporate life […]

WHAT NO LISA?

The lang cat’s Platform Market Scorecard was released to subscribers last week. You can read more about it here, but we want to take you through a couple of findings from this quarter’s smorgasbord. In each quarter, we take a detailed look at one area of platform propositions. This quarter, because it’s so topical, we’re […]

The Impact of Poor Service

We provided the research for a report, in conjunction with Parmenion, which reveals how far short of expectations many adviser platforms are falling. The research found that over the last 12 months, 88% of advisers needed to apologise to at least one of their clients on behalf of a platform, and that poor service delivery from platforms impacts 91% of advisers every day.

Answering the Call

Service means a lot of things to a lot of different people. It’s so subjective it can be hard to put your finger on. This paper aims to challenge the status quo and inertia that’s built up in the sector for many years.
