Have your say in State of the Advice Nation

State of the Advice Nation (SOTAN) is the lang cat’s flagship annual adviser research study and we’re in the throes of gathering the views of financial advice professionals for wave six.

If you’re reading this, and you are an advice professional – I’d be ever so grateful if you’d take some time to join in.

And in exchange

You’re a professional and you need rewarded for your time as a thank you so here’s a rundown of what you’ll get back if you do take part:

  • It’s your data. It’s your opinion. That’s why everyone who takes part gets the full study in return. Not a summary or a banal set of ‘headlines’ in bullet points. You’ll get the full 60-page warts and all study in return before any subscriber, client or journalist sees it.
  • Everyone will also get our annual state of the platform nation report when its out in the new year. (And if you need the one from earlier this year that’s fine too). This is a big document that might help here and there with research and due diligence. We don’t sell this as a standalone thing anymore but when we did we sold it to the advice profession for around £300. So you can have that.
  • You’ll also get entries (and these might be multiple entries depending on if you do the bits at the end) into our end of year super-draw where we have £1,500 worth of prizes to dish out. Experience days, charity donation, bits of kit for the office, Nintendo Switch for the kids, we don’t mind. It’s your choice and we’ll facilitate it.
  • More bits and bobs which we’ll reveal throughout the month of November till the study closes.

All the voices

As well as the usual stuff for advisers and financial planners, in this wave we have a dedicated section for paraplanners so if you are one, or know one – don’t hold back.

The Impact of Poor Service

We provided the research for a report, in conjunction with Parmenion, which reveals how far short of expectations many adviser platforms are falling. The research found that over the last 12 months, 88% of advisers needed to apologise to at least one of their clients on behalf of a platform, and that poor service delivery from platforms impacts 91% of advisers every day.

Answering the Call

Service means a lot of things to a lot of different people. It’s so subjective it can be hard to put your finger on. This paper aims to challenge the status quo and inertia that’s built up in the sector for many years.
