It’s not long until HomeGame 5 on 30 September at the Glasgow Science Centre, which is our biggest event so far…
…and for the first time we are officially CPD certified! If you need structured CPD hours and are attending our event, you’ll receive the proof of hours post event via certificate. More details on that will be sent to attendees soon.
There is so much to talk about when it comes to HomeGame 5, so we’ll be sharing details about different aspects over the next few weeks. Firstly, a deep dive into the agenda:
Level Up: Skills That Make You a Financial Planning Pro
Let’s start at the very beginning – the skills that are needed to excel in today’s advice and planning world. Have these changed over time and, if so, how? How do these skills match up with the next generation coming through, and their own expectations?
In this session we’ll hear some different perspectives on what it takes to become a great planner, the different roles in advice and open the discussion on attracting new talent.
Financial Planning LIVE
The set piece of the day will be in two parts, starring the very brilliant Nicola and Jennifer Ellis of Wellington Wealth. First we’ll have the initial client meeting, and watch the process of understanding a client’s needs play out in real time from all points of view, including the tech and note-taking that goes with it.
Later on we’ll come back to the office for the presentation of the plan and to see how the planner/client relationship starts to develop. Has the potential to be equal parts chaos and illuminating.
Financial planning vs. The World: What Other Careers Are Getting Right
Other sectors outside the financial bubble seem to be able to get new people in through the door, so why can’t we do the same in planning?
Here we’ll chat through the dedicated pathways into law and the efforts to attract and retain women in STEM, as well as work that’s underway to deliver a more joined-up approach to careers in finance.
In conversation with: One planner’s story
It is possible to go from entry-level finance student to successful entrepreneur and then some. Adrian Murphy of Murphy Wealth talks to Mark about his own path, and how he continues to pay it forward to get more people into planning. And with a decade of running a graduate scheme behind him, we’ll hear what’s worked for the firm and what hasn’t.
Tech showcase
Having emerged victorious at this year’s Catwalk, Tom Whittle of Tikker sits down with Rich to chat about the role of tech in making financial services slicker for those coming into the profession and those in it already. Plus we’ll get to see the difference tech can make to current inefficient ways of working.
Behind the scenes: How companies are fighting for fresh talent
There are firms that are taking it upon themselves to carve a route through for would-be advice professionals. From graduate apprenticeships to academies, and from newbies to second or third careerists, we’ll discuss the various approaches to recruitment and get a bigger picture view on not just attracting talent but keeping it.
