The Advice Gap 2026

The lang cat’s Advice Gap annual report is the reference study on the gap between those who pay for professional financial advice and those who might benefit from doing so.

This study has been running for over 10 years, starting its life with the Citizens Advice Bureau and moving over to us in 2019.

This year instead of publishing one big report we’re going to release our key findings in six short chapters over the autumn of 2026. We’ll then publish the full reference report at a launch event in London in November. The full report won’t just be the six chapters smashed together – it will have its own narrative and much more detailed data.

As each chapter is released you’ll be able to access them from our dedicated Advice Gap page. All downloads are free thanks to the generosity of our sponsor, Saturn.

The Impact of Poor Service

We provided the research for a report, in conjunction with Parmenion, which reveals how far short of expectations many adviser platforms are falling. The research found that over the last 12 months, 88% of advisers needed to apologise to at least one of their clients on behalf of a platform, and that poor service delivery from platforms impacts 91% of advisers every day.

Answering the Call

Service means a lot of things to a lot of different people. It’s so subjective it can be hard to put your finger on. This paper aims to challenge the status quo and inertia that’s built up in the sector for many years.
