We’re not expensive! You’re expensive! Hargreaves updates its Wealth 50 buy list

As the style diary columns have it, ‘to the Ritz’ on Tuesday to hear about Hargreaves Lansdown’s new Wealth 50 discounted fund range. A typically restrained affair in a typically restrained venue, which obviously I didn’t enjoy as it contravenes my strong socialist credentials. I restored balance to the universe by eating not only my […]

Things can only get better, maybe – the lang cat’s round-up of 2018

Well, if you’re reading this, you made it. Only 8 hours or so to go and we can wave a fond-ish farewell to a very particular year. Usually in this end-of-year blog I spend time providing a devastatingly concise and insightful summary of the big stories of the year. And when I say ‘devastatingly concise […]

10 things we’ve just learned about the platform market

The best thing about articles like this is that it frees the writer from the shackles of attempting to write a coherent, well-thought through narrative. Research has shown that 98.4% of readers will just skip right to the list, meaning this introduction is essentially a void. A wasteland. So, that’s what it’s come to then. […]

Aviva and Wealthify make a bold fashion statement

It’s been an interesting week in robo-land 1. On Monday the latest set of accounts for Nutmeg were published. As has become the norm, alongside the frankly hilarious boast of ‘an 80% market share’ the rest of the numbers were brutal. £2.56m turnover, £11.9m operating expenses, and a loss of £9.3m (on top of the […]

A WORD TO THE (HUB)WISE

It’s been ages since I’ve written a pricing blog. It’s also been a decent chunk of time since we’ve seen a new entrant to the advised platform market. A glorious piece of serendipity then to see that Hubwise has (re)launched[1] its advised proposition and given me reason to get the Casio out. Those who monitor […]

IS IT ME OR IS IT GETTING HOT IN HERE? SCALABLE CAPITAL & INVESTEC’S BIG DAY

Well, after a period in which all the talk was of funding moving away from robo-advice to ‘insurtech’ and ‘regtech’ and other things ending in ‘tech’ that neither you nor I understand, BlackRock and Scalable Capital have come from nowhere and given us all plenty to talk about. (Before I crack in, a bit of […]

The Impact of Poor Service

We provided the research for a report, in conjunction with Parmenion, which reveals how far short of expectations many adviser platforms are falling. The research found that over the last 12 months, 88% of advisers needed to apologise to at least one of their clients on behalf of a platform, and that poor service delivery from platforms impacts 91% of advisers every day.

Answering the Call

Service means a lot of things to a lot of different people. It’s so subjective it can be hard to put your finger on. This paper aims to challenge the status quo and inertia that’s built up in the sector for many years.
