PS16/12 and the mystery of the cover photos

Another week, another chunky missive from the FCA. Although happily, PS16/12: Pensions reforms, feedback on CP15/30 and final rules and guidance didn’t make me feel like turning green and smashing stuff. So that’s a good start. PS16/12 follows on from CP15/30: Pensions reform, proposed changes to our rules and guidance. It looked at whether consumers […]

REMIND ME WHY WE’RE DOING THIS AGAIN?

There’s a theme running through the FCA’s Consultation Paper 16/12: Secondary Annuity Market proposed rules and guidance. If you’ve braved all 112 pages (or any of them really) you might have spotted it. Here are some clues! Paragraph 1.7, We believe that there is a significant risk of poor outcomes for consumers in the secondary […]

E-I-E-I-Oh, not that kind of FAMR then

We’ve already taken a light touch (ahem) look at the FAMR report overall but, in among all the consultations and not consultations and the stuff that is actually going to happen but will take time and the fact that aspects might get upended by MiFID II at some point over the next 18 months, lies […]

CHALLENGE, ACCEPTED

The first challenge of the FCA’s TR16/1 Assessing Suitability: Research and due diligence of products and services was trying to work out what had happened to the rest of it. The industry has been watching and waiting for, oh, ever to hear the FCA’s glad tidings on all things due dil. And what did we […]

Innovation or indecision. We decide.

Reading the FCA’s Project Innovate feedback statement over a cup of tea this morning triggered some lively debate at lang cat port authority about life, the universe and how financial services has changed (or not, depending on your point of view) in the past couple of decades. We were quite excited to see Amazon, along […]

A new dawn rises – but not on exit charges

Nick Paler’s interview with Hargreavesâ?? Ian Gorham in Professional Adviser last week caught my eye. Headlined ‘We will not scrap exit fees until FCA tightens transfer rules‘, in it Gorham explains the thinking behind Hargreaves campaign for the FCA to take action and make transfers of stock easier to do across the whole industry. It’s […]

Whiskers on kittens

Having seen out my first week in my new home at the lang cat I decided to take some time to reflect upon the experience to date. That and the fact that I was locked out of the office meant that there wasn’t much else to be getting on with for a while. Much has […]

The Impact of Poor Service

We provided the research for a report, in conjunction with Parmenion, which reveals how far short of expectations many adviser platforms are falling. The research found that over the last 12 months, 88% of advisers needed to apologise to at least one of their clients on behalf of a platform, and that poor service delivery from platforms impacts 91% of advisers every day.

Answering the Call

Service means a lot of things to a lot of different people. It’s so subjective it can be hard to put your finger on. This paper aims to challenge the status quo and inertia that’s built up in the sector for many years.
